RESEARCH INTEREST

I develop my understanding and expertise in psychological intervention, mental imagery and cognitive behavioral therapy thus, I would like to further my research in developing a model and psychological intervention to address related issues. This encompasses the underpinning theory of the technique as well as the application of it. My next research project would be the understanding and exploration on attribution theory, relationship and attitude in social psychology, why humans behave as they are and what would be the expected behavior to some situations, how to react to an object /person that we like or dislike and that lead to a healthy and environment living. From there, I would develop an intervention and assess the effectiveness of it. The success of it will help me to educate people the importance of respect for other human beings, object or situation, and the help people to better understand the application of psychology.

The fundamental idea of these interventions also triggers me to apply it in a community setting. Hence, I am leading community projects and evaluate the effectiveness of the effectiveness of mental skill training in developing graduate attribute to students at higher education level. The development of mental skill training project combining with community service project is aim to have a better understanding of skill transfer to prepare students for graduation. Thus, this specifically applies to students at higher education level.

EXPERIENCES

RESEARCH EXPERIENCES

Thesis: Imagery in sport and movements
Supervisors: Dr. Sarah Williams and Dr. Jennifer Cumming
Synopsis: Individual ability plays an important role to obtain the desired outcome of an imagery intervention. This thesis focused on individual differences in imagery ability incorporated with PETTLEP model and observational imagery compared to traditional imagery. I completed and published four quantitative studies, two experimental and two cross-sectional studies with advanced statistical tests using SPSS and structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings were very innovative and I proposed a modification to the model that has been the guideline for imagery intervention. This project was funded by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
Skills gained: Developed outstanding research and critical, analytical and statistical (SPSS and AMOS) skills. Made an effective presentation at various international and national conferences. Established the advanced knowledge of applied psychology and individual differences in imagery intervention. Proven communication, team-working skill, and time & project management.
Thesis: An Intervention programme to reduce anxiety symptoms in young children
Supervisors: Prof. Dr Abdul Hafidz Omar and Dr Nora MIslan
Synopsis: Designed an intervention to reduce anxiety symptoms based on a behaviour therapy, the based on emotive imagery intervention. The product won awards (2 bronze and 1 gold) at various international and national exhibitions.
Skills gained: Developed qualitative research skills (single subject experimental). Established relation with stakeholders (both community and industrial organisations) and make a compelling presentation at various exhibitions (won bronze and gold award).

Thesis: The development of CD-ROM for reading readiness for pre-schoolers
Supervisor: Dr Yeo Kee Jiar
Synopsis: Designed a project for a reading programme for young children that have reading difficulties.
Skills gained: Developed the understanding of basic applied psychology in education, establish the foundation of psychology and differences in children’s intelligence and develop the interest in new technology design.

TEACHING EXPERIENCES

I have been teaching some courses to both undergraduate and postgraduates students since I started my university career as a senior lecturer at UTM 2016. The teaching language at UTM is English as Malaysia is a signatory member of the Washington Accord and international agreement among various responsible bodies. It recognise the substantial equivalency of programmes accredited by those bodies. Therefore, my teaching experience in this university should be regarded as valuable as teaching experience in international university.
